Why You Should Add Pokolbin (Hunter Valley) To Your Bucketlist

The Hunter Region itself is quite massive, an area stretching as far as 29,145 km². I, myself, have never explored all 29,145 km² of it.

I do, however, frequent the Pokolbin area at least twice a year. And Pokolbin is where Moe and I tied the knot that one Spring day in September 2011.

Here are just some of the reasons why you should add Pokolbin to your next visit. Even if you have only a day to spare, this is one place you won’t want to miss.

1. Breathtaking views of endless vineyards

2. Wine tasting

You also get a chance to taste wines that are exclusive to each cellar door.

3. What’s wine without cheese

The Hunter Valley Cheese Factory is located next to McGuigan’s Wines, and the Smelly Cheese Shop is located at Tempus Two winery.

4. Taste local produce

As much as we love pub food, we also love fancy to go with our wines.

5. Take a hot air balloon ride over the entire Valley

6. Stay in one of the many accommodation options

I’ve never stayed in a hotel in the region, rather opting for a B&B, cabin, cottage or villa accommodation.

7. Brush up on your photography skills

It’s hard to take a bad photo here. And if you do, have some wine and start over *wink*

8. Get married – like we did

We said our vows at Peterson House in front of 82 of our closest and dearest.

9. Annual Food and Wine Month (June)

Pepper’s Guest House usually puts on a great selection of wine and desert pairing.

11. Pack a picnic

12. Enjoy a concert

Jazz in the Vines and Lovedale Long Lunch are the more well-known events. This is on my to-do list.

13. Fancy a round of golf?

We recommend Cypress Lakes Golf & Country Club and The Vintage Golf Club.

    • Thanks Hanne! Hunter Valley is simply breathtaking – we just got back from a day trip there just now actually hehe

You must do a hot air balloon ride when you get a chance. It’s so serene up there.
